A good website for basic HTML code?
So I am trying to figure out how to design a website that already has the basic structure in place. I just want to figure out how to change backgrounds, colors, fonts, headings, and text formats. I know there are a lot of websites for beginners with not much knowledge of HTML - has anyone had a good experience with one that they can recommend?

I would also recommend W3Schools. I already knew basic HTML when I started using the website, but it was a good reference and helped me learn XHTML, CSS, ASP, PHP and more.
Of course, after you study the HTML section, I would recommend going over the XHTML section. It'll show you the small differences you need to make your webpage more compliant with web standards. Along with that, be sure to look at the CSS section. That will teach you how to make style sheets for your page so you can make them look any way you want them too.
The site has some nice examples on it that you can work with, too, so it's sure to help a lot.
