all i see is black screen when i try to view cams?

Check to see what *type* of black screen you're getting. If you wave your hand in front and notice some *small* difference, chances are there is not enough lighting for the camera to view properly. Cheap models need very bright light to really see anything.
Also, check to see if there is no cap on the camera. Some caps are very subtle.. so don't feel dumb if there happens to be one on.
Last, it could be a video driver, camera driver, camera software issue - start with the software, then the camera driver then the video driver-- until the problem stops.
